Barbados is an island located in the eastern Caribbean. In the 13th century Barbados was first inhabited by the Carbis and the Arawak Indians.  Then during the 15th century, the island was conquered by the Portuguese from 1513 till 1536. The Portuguese decided to abandon Barbados in 1620 seven years later Barbados would be under Britian's rule.  On November 30, 1966 Barbados finally gained independence from Great Britian and is now considered an independent state.

Now that Barbados is a Free State, they must change their flag to signify that they are free state. The blue in the flag stands for the oceans and the yellow in the flag stands for the sand dividing those oceans. When looking at the flag, you're going to notice a broken trident in the middle. That Trident is the Trident of Poseidon that Britannia was holding in the original Barbados flag. That trident signifies that they are broken away from the British colony and they stand on their own.  This signifies power and strength that they are strong together than when they were under Britan's control.

The Islands history affects the people of Barbados in a good way every year on November 30th   the day of their independence there is always a big celebration. During the celebration you dress up, sing, dance preform, eat basically just show your national pride. Even though I grew up in the states my parents always make sure we celebrate Barbados Independence Day just as if I was by the Garrison in Barbados.

In conclusion, Barbados was colonized by the Portuguese and Britian.  During the 12th century the Arawak and Carbis settled in Barbados. The flag represents the break away from the colony and signifies the countries strength. On November 30th Barbados won their independence from Great Britian and has been a free state for 54 years.

Threes Islands I want to adopt.

3. Virgin Islands
