Intro to my life

English 1102


Hello everyone my name is Deandra I am currently a freshman in college and my major is nursing. I chose  this major because I like helping people and  I am a very nurturing person. Through out my Highschool years  Some of my hobbies  consist of making home made lip gloss and  writing in my journal. Writing  has also been one of my favorite things to do because  it gives me a way to express my self and it also helps me release stress.



I would like to describe myself as a very reserve but outgoing person. I'm not sure if that makes a lot of sense but in a way I'm only outgoing with my close friends and family. Being asked to describe my self for a class grade has always been hard its almost as if I don't know who I am anymore. I think this is because I'm really shy I don't like a lot t of attention or to really be in the mix.


Through out the years I have broken out of my shell a little bit .going to college was most definitely a big jump for  me because through k-12 I have always went to school with the same people. For most people  college is a great adventure waiting to be discover but for me it felt like I was venturing into the unknown. Thankfully I can say  I have changed from the quiet  little girl to more of a open person waiting to see what life awaits.

  My family is from Barbados, but I was born in the United States my cultural identity concludes of being a west Indian and an American. The meaning of cultural identity is a small portion of a person self-conception and self-perception. Cultural identity connects people to a specific group this group can be anything such as ethnicity, religion, gender, communities.   leaving Barbados would have an influence on a person's cultural identity as a native Bajan if they moved to the United States. Barbados is a small island located in the southern eastern part of the Caribbean Sea. Barbados was conquered by the English in the late 17th centry, but they were not the first to concours the island the Arawak and the Carib were the first. Being under British rule for so long Barbados government is based off England's government. Barbados is also the oldest counting parliamentary democracy besides England.

  Deandra Greenidge   Professor Harris   English 110 2   9/ February /2021              Barbados  is an island l ocated in the eastern  Caribbean. In  the 13 th   century  Barbados  was  first inhabited  by  the Carbis  and  the Arawak   Indians .    Then  during the 15 th  century, the  island was conquered by  the Portuguese from 1513 till 1536.  The  Portuguese  decided to abandon Barbados in 1620  seven years later  Barbados would be under  Britian's   rule.    On November 30, 1966 Barbados finally gained independence from Great Britian  and is now considered an independent  state.            Now that Barbados is a Free  State,   they   must  change their flag  to signify that they are free state.  The blue  in  the flag stands for the oceans and the yellow in the flag stands for the sand  d ividing those oceans.  When looking at the flag, you're going to notice a broken   trident in  the middle .
